New Book Published by Our Faculty Member: _Two Averroist Treatises on the Eternity of the World_

27.06.2022

Pilar Herráiz Oliva, assistant professor of our department, has just published a book titled “Dos tratados averroístas sobre la eternidad del mundo: Siger de Brabante y Boecio de Dacia” (Two Averroist Treatises on the Eternity of the World: Siger of Brabant and Boethius of Dacia) as part of the Collection on Medieval and Renaissance Thought compiled by Eunsa, the publishing house of the University of Navarra, Spain (ISBN 978-84-313-3762-9).

The present title includes the translations from Latin into Spanish of two medieval opuscules dealing with the eternity of the world together with a preliminary study. The reason for translating these works has to do with them being among the most polemical ones in the entire Middle Ages, so much that some of the theses contained in these works were condemned by the ecclesiastical authorities both in 1270 and 1277. Their authors are also traditionally cited as averroists, i.e., the followers of Ibn Rushd or Averroes in its Latin nomenclature, which also allows us to show the lines of continuity between European philosophical and scientific thought and the Andalusi legacy.

The work, its contents and introduction can be found on the website of Eunsa (Spanish).
